fashion kills

Last look from my long and wonderful trip to LA, combining one of my favorite stripper shoes with a dope tee by Moschino.

I'm heading to NYLON Magazine this afternoon to shoot something cool in their studios, then off to a friend's house warming party in LES. It's hot as hell in New York right now, but I'm loving summer here.

Walking on a pretty daze. Kurt Vile in my ears and Los Angeles in my heart. We took an afternoon ride down the sunset strip, the LA sun beating in through the car windows. I'm on a bit of a black coffee high, seeing everything like it was for the first time, but secretly comforted by the remembrance of it all.

I don't know why I'm here, and I don't know why I want to stay. All I know is that I like this summer drive, and I'm down for whatever.

the city of angels

by Rachel Lynch

Here's a look I shot during my trip to LA with the talented Nat Sinn. It's a mash of a bunch of pieces I found essential on the trip, including these Chloe sunglasses and ASOS metallic pumps.

I've also mixed in my current obsession Moschino bag and Deadwood jacket. I've been using the two pieces daily, even though it is summer.

Do you guys still wear leather during the summer in one way or another? No matter how warm it is, I just can't seem to let go of black in my wardrobe.

Have a great day babes, always remember to snap or tweet at me if you have questions about specific pieces or style tips!

4pm in Los Angeles

by Rachel Lynch

Jesus fever. Rock n roll. Fire in the hollywood hills. I've got white bed sheets to burn. I'm in LA to find some release. But wherever I go, there I am. Nothing can steal the thoughts in my head, cause they travel with me. 30,000 feet above pseudo-palm trees. Californiacation.

I'm all glamour and impulse. A tribute to those that have gone before me in platforms and leather. I carry New York with me, the spirit of Soho streets in my heart. Champagne in the sunshine, parliaments in my pink suitcase. I've got purple boots and silver pumps, I haven't got enough clothes for the week. I've got sunglasses bigger than my face, and one novel in my backpack. A tin of pencils, so as to write down everything that's happened.

Listening to the black angels in a red porsche, it's adventure time.

baby's arms

The Los Angeles fever's falling all over me. Believing in lovers in a blackout space. I'm shaking, seeing things for the first time. The gem in Los Feliz.

Not named for the purity of it's water or it's people, but I get along just fine.

Sultry sun, I wake up too early here. If I was small enough to be clutched by californiacation, I would willingly submit to it's grasp. But I've got a home in New York, and your mother's ring in a kitchen drawer.

I stood in the rainbow arch of Beverly Hills, naked and afraid. Realizing that I barely wanted to own clothing, much less a house that took up a city block. Buddha said, "All suffering arrises from attachment," maybe that's why I feel ok today. I am open to everything and attached to nothing.

passover

Fear and release in Los Angeles, today I am reminded of who I am. I'm with a photographer who's known me since I was seventeen. When you were beating the fear into me, remember then?

We talk about relationships and sex. Lots of sex. He talks about how angry some men are, I think about how submissive some women are. He says we're told that if you're a good person and treat someone well, you'll have a love forever.

"But that's not how that works," he said. "You got to be a little shitty, a little edgy." Probably true enough. Most times, I'm pretty shitty, and I feel like things are working out. I'm in a house on the top of a hill in Silverlake, undressing and talking about LA punk bands. Red porsche, parliaments, and my teenage vices. No one's real as you.

I'm tributing all the 70s rockstars with my white leather boots and flower kimono. Drifting from your couch to my pack of cigarettes. Rolling on the bed, black choker, and a mesh tee shirt. It's good to be in LA, it's good to be free.

jesus fever

"It's much better to do good in a way no one knows anything about it." You know what I mean. Random acts of kindness behind closed doors, keeping quiet about everything you do.

There's an art to keeping to yourself. Especially now. There's an impulse in our culture to share everything we do, but that doesn't necessary bring any sort of fulfillment. It's much better in the shadow moments, between the secret and the soul. My encounters with people I could never recollect or give away to others, those experiences are mine. They are what fill me, inspire me to keep going.

If I find myself feeling unimpressed with people, I need only turn my viewpoint around. To focus on the other's perspective, that is high art.
"I am here to transact with you, but not necessarily relate to you," that way of thinking has let us to a world based on greed. We will see when we let go of ourselves, that others are beautiful, and so are their stories. It will be the quality of your compassion and non-judgement that keeps them around.

And someday, you will find value in that.

deandri

by Rachel Lynch

My babes from Deandri sent some new dress over, so you know I had to rock them. Excited to see them in LA this week! Decided to go for a baby rock star look and pair them with my white plastic booties and new Moschino bag that I can't get enough of!

I'm shooting a Penny Lane editorial today with Gypsy Warrior and then packing for my trip! Check out the Gypsy Warrior snapchat for behind the scenes of everything <3

never settle

by Rachel Lynch

Hey babes! I've partnered with the undeniably English brand, Pandco, to help give you all a look into my creative process.

They carry clothing, as well as really great home goods. One of my favorites is this skull mug. I can't start my day without a really good cup of coffee. I crave the strong taste of it every morning when I wake up. I also don't really like getting right into my blogging or writing without a cup of coffee at my side. In these photos you can see a peek into my teal kitchen, where I do all my work. It's here that I blog, write, do emails, edit photos, and am currently working on my book.

I also usually have something sweet for breakfast, whether that's a vegan peanut butter cookie or vegan gluten-free banana bread. Once I've got my coffee and bread at my side, I'm ready to sit down, turn on music, and get to work. Sometimes the words are flowing in the morning, and I want to write first. Other times, I'm more in the mood to color edit photos or work on email collaborations.

I really love what I do, and I love a brand that celebrates people that do the same.

Have a great Sunday loves, I'll be here sipping coffee and editing photos to the shins.

"smoke ring for my halo" (bonus track version)

by Rachel Lynch

When asked by his wife if we two are lovers, he says, "I hardly know her, besides, she's not my type."

And I'm the one who gives it at any give time. I get you Damien. I'll sleep in the very she's been in. I don't mind. I like this wild kind of life. Hiding up on Wooster Street, smoking cigarettes in a snake kimono.

There's something about being someone's lover that gives me the energy to live a creative life. And not the lovers that take from you. I'm talking about the ones that only come around once and a while, but they lift you from the ground like magic. Was it Conor Oberst who first sang about wanting a lover he didn't have to love.

I can't take the constant contact from needy lovers, perhaps because I recognize the same neediness in myself. I like the fever of a moment, not the incessant exposure of one's entire being.

There's a saying that love brings up everything unlike itself. I don't think someone like you should have to see all the ghosts that live in me.

I don't really know if you came by today, but I feel the memory of your skin. You're off wandering now, making art in some other city. You pretend to lack purpose, just like myself.

I like to come off as reckless and lazy, but really I've reached this point where I can't help but have my shit together. Maybe that's growing up. Maybe it's just because another year has gone by.

I'm in New York missing Mexico, but summer mornings here are similar to mornings in Playa. Then, I was reading the Bhagavad of Gita, now I'm reading a Course in Miracles. I find myself to be a new person with each book, mind expanding with a fever for words and the experiences that follow.

The mind serving love is in it's natural state, no matter what kind of love that may be.
