the war of art and love

by Rachel Lynch

She lost her crazy when she fell in love. The edge that separated her and the world.

Comfort came against her will. And in this life, all you have is your fire. She wasn't sure if a passion for art could survive alongside a lifetime romance. Does love just seek to bore us, to bring us out of our wild? Maybe not love in it's purest form, but the social construct of love.

Love inspires and then it suffocates, she wondered if the artist was destined to be alone. Solititude kept her body's edges sharp, love softened her hips.

Humankind's main motivation is to seek and experience personal freedom, and she had many affairs of the heart. Little flings with other like-minded artists that gave way to boundless inspiration before they self-destructed. But this love was different - it was like the love of her father, the love of a family. It made her less wild, and she wasn't sure if she wanted that.

We love purely when we release other people to be who they are. The ego seeks intimacy through control and guilt. The holy spirit seeks intimacy through acceptance and release.

The other morning she read that the people you surround yourself with serve as excellent mirrors for how much, or how little you love yourself.

It was then that she began to realize she loved herself very much.
