Do you guys remember these books? They were my absolute favorite in grade school! I remember reading them in my canopy bed and genuinely scaring myself! I always had my dad come in to tuck me in at night and check all my closets for monsters and ghosts.  My favorite scary story of ALL TIME has to be "The Girl With the Green Ribbon Around Her Neck." So in honor of it being the day before halloween, I'm going to tell you my favorite scary story,

A long time ago there was a little girl who had a green ribbon around her neck. One day she went to school and met a boy named Jim. Jim sat behind her in class and noticed the ribbon under her pig tails.

"Why do you wear that ribbon around your neck?" he asked. Someday I'll tell you, she promised.

When they were teenagers, Jim asked the girl on a date. While they were drinking frappes, Jim asked again, "why do you wear that green ribbon around your neck?” She laughed nervously and said, "Well maybe if we ever get married I'll tell you."

Jim fell in love with the girl and they got married. In bed their first night, the only thing his new wife wouldn't take off was the ribbon and he asked, “Okay, we're married now...why do you wear that ribbon on your neck!" She said, "I'll tell you if we ever have kids."

After they had a boy and a girl, Jim asked again,"Please, please, please, WHY DO YOU WEAR THAT RIBBON AROUND YOUR NECK?!?!" She said, if you love me, you'll drop it for now, some day I'll tell you."

So he dropped it. Just accepted the fact that his wife wore a mysterious ribbon around her neck all the time. They got old together, then the woman got very sick, went to the hospital, and the doctor said she was going to die. Her distraught husband sat by her side for days, and finally said, please, tell me now, why do you have that ribbon around your neck? In a croaky voice she said, okay, I'll tell you, take it off now."

He pulled the bow loose and her head fell off.

And the flames awoke me in my bed, but I didn't care. We fall asleep in the same house and in the morning, hope that we're all the same. There it goes, the flames surrounding the garden and the bedroom, making ghosts out of us.

I wish I was as good as you. I've lived in this house for too long, done too many things here. But at least we both know where the other one sleeps. You pass through the gate, if you scream then I'm coming to get you. You want to sleep, but I'm not gonna let you.

You see, we're all alseep here. Alseep in the town. And I'm done with being asleep. We'd don't know what's real because we haven't seen real since we can remember. How dark the night comes in, but we walk in darkness all the time here. Trails of masks and cold. October moves in on us and I hope it shakes us. The cold should dive into our bones and remind us that we are alive in this ghost town.

Paradise circus. Look at the girl with flames for eyes. The uneventful evening turned adventurous when we happened up the dark carnival. Riding on the possessed horses and trespassing into the fun house. Brooklyn may be sleeping but the carnival is alive in the hearts of the freaks. It walks wildly in the night, you can hear the water moving in the dunk tank. The clowns are fixing themselves for the next day. We run through the streets of the circus like we own it, like we're the main event. Our eyes are on fire with the spooky summer sundown.

spooky and sheer

I'm guessing it's just the season, but lately, I've been channeling my inner dark child. I recently bought black lipstick and started using silver/lavender shampoo to tone my hair to white. It also might finally be starting to get too cold to run around with my little legs in platforms and no pants, so I've busted out the thigh-highs. To top off my spooky look, I've been wearing this "sleep under the stars" hoodie non-stop. It's so cozy and soft, I've worn it on my last three flights and slept it in Friday night at a hotel uptown.

What are you guys doing to change your look up for fall? Any must-haves? I'm thinking of making a collage this weekend of my fall must-haves and spooky-October hair styles.

spooky cocktails

by Rachel Lynch in , , , ,

Friday night I decided to have my bitches over for a little, "spooky cocktail" evening. Everyone knows Halloween is my favorite holiday, so it's only appropriate that we start celebrating way early.

The week preceding, I scoured the internet for spooky-esque beverages. After hours of browsing, I finally settled on making spooky "eyeball cocktails" with a recipe I found on Martha Stewart. I started with her ingredients and went from there. What initially attracted me to the recipe was the sexy neon color, which is made possible by Hpnotiq, a blue liquor inspired  by a french perfume bottle (swoon!) But instead of combining it with another vodka and lychee juice (like the recipe called for), I decided to mix it with champagne. The change proved delightful. It gave the drink a bubbly feel, and by the end of the evening everyone was calling it "frosty neon champagne."

But what is my number one priority when treating your friends to drink this Halloween season?

Spooky Skeleton glasses, duh.
