black jesus

by Rachel Lynch in

smoke and mirrors,

stripes and stars,

i do it all for the greater glory of God,

black american spirits and the will to give love,

i see the Lord in the homeless,

and hope in the hopeless,

i pray that it will all work out,

that my father will overcome,

and that's what life is about.

if i could take it for him

i really fucking would

but his strength has got me doing what i should

i feel like a child in this goliath nation

a daughter of freedom, but a slave of satin

i blow kisses out the window

and throw my kicks up on his desk,

in america, there's no time for rest
